The How and The Why

If you follow me on Instagram (@sarahsham), or also known as foodpics, this blog probably isn't coming as such a surprise to you.

You may have stumbled upon this blog on Twitter, or Instagram and are wondering why or how an 18 year old  thinks she can tell people how to cook. The answer is simple. I started cooking about a year ago, and after I mastered certain recipes and created my own, I realized I'm not too bad at it. My friends are always asking me to teach them to cook my specialties, because it's much easier to learn from a friend rather than an anal mother, whos been cooking for 25+ years . Let's face it; who would you rather learn a recipe from, your best friend, or your 80 year old grandmother?

Besides for people constantly nagging me to write these recipes or teach them it, another reason why I felt like this blog would be a good idea is because it isnt your typical blog. Whats the biggest problem with cookbooks and blogs? You open up a recipe with a picture that looks awesome, and you think 'Nice I'll make this right now", and just as you've mentally prepared yourself to cook something, you see "2 teaspoons of Nutmeg, truffle oil, and shaved vanilla bean" Who the hell has Nutmeg lying around their house? This blog isn't for the aspiring Julia Child or Rachel Ray. This blog isn't for someone who is attempting to become a gourmet cook. It's for lazy people like me and my friends who are forced to cook for their house or their husbands and want something thats quick, easy to make, and the ingredients are already lying in their pantries. This is a blog for people like me.

Why I've been cooking is a different story. My mom works, and she HATES to cook. For 6 months she'd leave me money on fridays and tell me to get dinner from the butcher. That wasn't gonna fly. I called her one friday, asked for the basics for a shabbat dinner, and go to work. It was fun, so I kept doing it. It became my thing, and I loved it. I'm constantly trying and tweaking new things, and now I'm ready to go viral.

Cooking is what I like to do right now, so I'm gonna document it. I love learning new things, so please post with your faves.

Oh also I like to make stupid jokes, so if those pop in, dont kill me.

Enjoyyyyyyyyyy
